Jorge’s eldest son, Andre, had a baby! They also named him Jorge, so it will be interesting to be able to discern between the two who we are talking about! Jorge is a VERY proud grandfather and wanted to make sure we tell everyone all about the little boy.

Jorge also wanted us to extend many thanks for all the help they continue to receive, not just in “things” like food baskets and help with their home, but also prayer and emotional support. He asks for prayer for headaches that seem to come and go. He feels fine for days and then it hits him. Additionally, he is trying to discern what to do about work. The company that he and his “work group” are employed by has not paid them well or on time in recent months. While they are grateful for having steady work, they also feel as though they are being taken advantage of. So, they are trying to decide what to do or where to go. As a team, we have begun talking about employing Jorge part-time to help with house repairs, etc. for families and the ministry center; however, his current work is 6 days a week, usually about 10 hours a day. That wouldn’t give him much time to help out elsewhere. Additionally, his current employment prevents him from attending our discipleship classes, which he wants to participate in but simply does not have the time right now.

Jorge, Anthony, and Carmen

Carmen is grateful as well for all the support we have helped them with! When we were in Guatemala in February, her room at her home collapsed! The team had just finished preparing the back room in our ministry center for various uses and were able to set up a bed for her to have a place to sleep. We are helping them with building a new room for Carmen! Carmen has since travelled to the city to stay with her daughter, as she sometimes does, until the construction is finished. The work should start sometime this week. Please pray that it goes quickly!

Carmen is also grateful for the medicine we were able to provide for her, as this has helped take away what was affecting her migraines.

Jorge was also asking for help with rebuilding their kitchen area, since it has begun to deteriorate. Jorge is paying for private tutoring lessons for Anthony until he can enroll in school next year, so between that and basic sustenance, they cannot afford to purchase the materials. We worked out a deal with them that we could help with the materials if they are able to do the work themselves, which we know Jorge is capable of. As often as possible, we try to offer help while also creating a sense of ownership with the families, so this worked out really well!
