A few weeks ago something happened that none of us ever expected. The mother of Luis, Marlyn, and Erik came to the house of refuge where the 3 children now live and asked the pastor if she could start seeing them again. While hesitant at first, because of wanting to protect the children from further harm, the pastor and his wife agreed that this would be a good thing for the children as long as healthy boundaries are in place.
So their mother is now coming to visit them once a month but no other members of the family are allowed to visit with the children because of the history of abuse from other members of their family in the past. The children are doing well with this and seem to enjoy having their mother back in their lives. A few weeks ago Erik asked one of our missionaries to pray for his mom during prayer time in church so it is encouraging to see God rebuilding that relationship for them.
Sadly, a few nights ago, a friend of the family showed up at the house of refuge and said that the kids needed to come see their father because he was dying. The pastor asked that an actual family member come so that they could get the whole story and a few hours later the grandmother came to tell them that the dad was indeed dying. The kids went to visit them but it was a very difficult situation for them. There is still a lot of pain and trauma from the things their father had done in the past and it was hard for them to see him dying due to his alcoholism. Then last night at midnight word came that their father had died.
We ask that you would please pray for these sweet children. They have been through so much in their short lives, more than most of us could ever imagine, and they truly need to receive the Lord’s healing from these things in their past. It is our prayer that through continued relationships and love from all us who God has put in their lives that they will continue to be open to allowing Jesus to heal them. Please continue to pray for them as they walk through this new relationship building with their mother and as they deal with the loss of their father. Please also continue to pray for all of those who live with them and care for them at the House of Refuge and those of us at Servants so that we make wise decisions and allow what the Lord wants in their lives.
Thank you for continuing to prayer for, love, and support these sweet children!
