In September Apolonia and her girls started a new business. They purchased a few snacks and some eggs and are starting a little tienda (shop in English) out of their home. Their idea is to start small and save their profits to continue to buy more things so that they can grow the business and provide for their family. This is so exciting as Apolonia has had a dream of having her own business for years but up until this point it has not worked out. Over the past 2 months they have slowly added new things to their tienda and they are thankful that business is going well.
Apolonia and her family are also thankful that the girls did well in school this year. All three girls passed the school year and will be moving up a grade next year.
The family has had some issues with their land slowly eroding during the rainy season, and they had used old metal sheets to try to keep the land from washing away more. At the end of October a team of 4 missionaries from Servants came down for 10 days and worked on starting to build a concrete retaining wall for Apolonia to try to stop this land erosion. It was a great time of relationship building, hard work, and blessings for everyone involved. While the team was there it was Jenifer’s 14th birthday, so thanks to the generosity of a sponsor and the team that was here we were able to throw a birthday party for her. Everyone had a great time and Apolonia shared with one of our missionaries that she is so blessed to have everyone from Servants in her life and in her girls’ lives.
Thank you for being a part of that blessing for this family and for all that you do! Please continue to pray for the business to grow, for the girls to do well in school next year, and for the completion of the retaining wall for this family.
- Our missionaries, the Smith family, visiting Apolonia’s family and checking out their new tienda
- You can see here how Apolonia’s land was not very secure and why it kept washing away with the rain
- Apolonia helping to clear dirt away so they can get started on the wall
- The wall is halfway done!!
- This will definitely help prevent the land erosion during rainy season!
