In our last update we shared that Jeny, Aminta’s youngest daughter, had recently been diagnosed with tuberculosis.  This diagnosis was very hard for Aminta and her family as the doctors originally wanted to admit Jeny to the hospital for at least one month so that she could get her treatment.  This all happened a few days before Christmas and Aminta was very upset thinking about the possibility of her daughter not being with them for the holidays and being in a hospital for a month.  This was also complicated by the fact that Aminta recently found a job (praise the Lord) but she knew she would give up her job if Jeny had to go into the hospital because she would not leave her daughter there alone.  Thankfully, one of our missionaries did a lot of research and found a clinic close by where Jeny can receive her treatment daily without having to go into the hospital.  This means that every day, except for Sunday, Jeny has to be ready for us to take her to get her treatment and this will continue until about mid February.  After that Jeny will only need to go 3 times a week but she will have to continue this treatment until she completes 1 1/2 years of medicine.  We praise God for this clinic because they provide the medicine for free and each DAILY DOSE of the medicine costs about $400 so this is literally a life saving blessing because there is no way the family would be able to afford this.

Jeny is also struggling with some malnourishment so we continue to work with a nutritionist to see how this can be resolved.  We are so grateful that we have people in Guatemala who can help Aminta’s family with this because Jeny needs to have someone over 18 years of age with her and being that Aminta and the other adults in the house work there are very few options for people who can take Jeny to make sure she gets this crucial treatment!  Aminta has expressed repeatedly how thankful she is for all that Servants is doing for her family and that means EVERYONE from the people in the home office, to the missionaries in Guatemala, to the people who pray for them and support them faithfully.  Thank you for being a part of God’s provision for this family in so many ways!

Within a week of Jeny starting her treatment she was doing better.  Her cough had decreased and she was finally able to sleep at night because she wasn’t kept up all night by the coughing.  This treatment that Jeny is receiving is very strong so please pray for protection on her frail body.  Please also pray for provisions for the family to be able to help Jeny, and all their kids, not be malnourished.  Finally, please pray for Jeny as she has to wear a mask all day every day until she is found to no longer be contagious.  She does not like wearing it so it has been a struggle.

A few days after Christmas Aminta’s family had another sad event happen.  Someone climbed over the wall to their house and stole some of their things.  In this robbery Aminta’s family lost their blender, their griddle for cooking tortillas, one of their large pots, and a wheelbarrow.  While these weren’t hugely valuable things they ARE a lot to people who have so little. Also, the blender, griddle, and pot are necessities for making many meals here in Guatemala and they of course do not have the extra money to replace these things. But God, who knows all of our needs before we even do, had already provided for some of these things to be replaced through gifts sent to the family for Christmas.  Now Aminta’s blender, griddle, and large pot can be replaced and there should even be some money left over to buy food for the family.

Please join us in praising our amazing Lord for all that He is doing in this family!  We never stop being amazing by how He continues to care of all of His beloved children!  Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support for this family!
