“Of course you can share with people…we want as many people praying for us as possible.  Besides my sister did nothing wrong…she just trusted the wrong person.”  This is what we were told the other day when we dropped Aminta’s brother off from a day long trip to try to find a lawyer for Aminta.  Why does Aminta need a lawyer?  Because she trusted the wrong person.

Awhile ago Aminta’s ex daughter-in-law, whom Aminta is still friendly with, asked if she could use Aminta’s bank account to receive some money someone wanted to send her.  This is a pretty common thing in Guatemala because a lot of people don’t have bank accounts so Aminta didn’t think anything of it.  Aminta doesn’t regularly use her bank account because she is paid in cash for her job so she doesn’t pay much attention to the account.  Sadly, her ex daughter-in-law was using Aminta’s account more than once to receive money and this raised red flags with the authorities.  The authorities then started investigating Aminta for money laundering and extortion because this is what was happening with her account.  Aminta knew nothing about this until a few weeks ago when she found out she was being investigated.  She didn’t know what to do because she wasn’t doing anything wrong and then this past week the authorities came and arrested her.

Aminta is currently in prison awaiting a hearing with the judge to see if she can be put on house arrest while they work on this case because if not she will need to stay in jail the whole time and the process could take more than a year.  The family is also trying to get the money together for a lawyer.  Their pastor has a friend who is willing to help but it will cost about Q6,000 which is about $800.  This is cheap, compared to a normal lawyer which would cost Q15,000 and is about $2,000, but still a lot of money for the family.

Please continue to pray for God’s favor in this situation as Aminta is before the judges.  Please also pray that the authorities would be able to find her ex daughter-in-law because no one has been able to find her yet.  Also, please pray for Aminta’s children and brother who are trying to make sure the family is cared for as well as trying to help Aminta.  One of Aminta’s sons who is not a believer said to his uncle the other day “I guess God is testing my mom” and his uncle said “God is not testing your mom, He is working on our whole family through this process to help us all draw closer to Him.”  Please pray that they all will draw closer to the Lord during this difficult time and that they will come to know Him in an amazing way.

Thank you for all of your love, prayers, and support for this family!
