This past week a team of 6 ladies came to help bless Mirna and her kids with a new roof! Her home had been caving in because whoever built their house used the wrong pitch and weak posts to put up the roof. As a result, water would pool at the top, make the support beams sag, and eventually the water started leaking into their home. This caused rotted wood. The team replaced the beams, raised her roof about 20cm, and also rebuilt her bathroom area. Here are some pictures of the process!
- old roof
- old patio
- sealing the wood so it doesn’t rot
- Taking off the roof
- a clear piece of roofing to illuminate inside
- the new porch!

While we were there, we got to spend more time observing the intimate relationships in the family and noticed a lot of discord between Mirna and her kids. Mirna seems to be a very hard and strict mom and the kids are constantly rebelling against it. She is fearful because of the heavy gang influence in their neighborhood that they will be either killed or recruited: a fear for any mother! Our missionaries had some time to speak with all three of them individually to try to encourage them to be more loving and encouraging to each other but we recognize this isn’t something that can be resolved with just one or two conversations. Please continue to pray for wisdom and patience for Mirna and that she would learn how to show more love to her kids. Also pray for Carmen and Oscar to be more obedient and loving toward their mother. Please pray for us as we continue to minister to these deeper needs of the family.
