The quinceañera, or 15th year celebration, is one of the most anticipated days of a young girl’s life here in Guatemala. This special birthday signifies the transition from childhood to womanhood and is a day not soon forgotten which highlights God, family, friends, and music.

The planning for this special event sometimes begins a year or more in advance, and each family has different ideas about how they would like to celebrate — some even compare the planning with that of a wedding. Depending on the family, there can be a father-daughter dance, a church blessing, or speeches by family and friends of the young lady. Every quinceañera is unique to the young lady being celebrated.

With this in mind, we wanted to invite you and your family, as her family’s sponsors, to participate in Marlin Yusra Lopez Ordoñez’s quinceañera.  Marlin will celebrate her quinceaños on June 1, 2018.  There are many ways you can be involved if you decide that this is something in which you would like to participate. First, this event can be a burden financially for the family because even a minimal celebration involves a special meal, cake, and a new dress, so one way you can be involved is by making a special donation for this celebration.

We at Servants are committed to helping each young lady with $100 for her quinceaños.  If we receive more than this amount it will go into the fund for the yearly birthday party for all our families.  If we do not receive this amount in donations we will need to find another way to provide this for the family.  So, if making a financial gift is something you feel the Lord leading you to do please send your donation to Servants, Inc. 100 Redco Avenue Suite C-0, Red Lion, PA 17356 by May 1, 2017.  Please be sure to include a note stating that this is a special donation for the quinceaños of Marlin Yusra Lopez Ordoñez.  You can also send a card to Servants at the same address indicated above however, the card would not get to her until early July 2018 because that is the next time we have someone heading to Guatemala who could take the card.  Additionally, you could make a video with your well wishes and message for her. If you have a different idea about how you might like to be involved please contact, Melissa Brobst, at Melissa@Servants.org to discuss your idea.

Here is a link explaining a little more about the quinceañera celebration.  Marlin’s family will not be having a celebration as elaborate as some of the descriptions, but we thought it would be nice for you to have a little more information explaining this big event in a girl’s life.
