Things have been an uphill battle for the Escobars in the past few months. They had to move to a new house as they could not maintain enough work to pay for where they are living. Their current home is much smaller than where they were and it is not very well ventilated. This causes an issue because when they cannot afford gas for their stove, they cook using wood but this fils the house with a lot of smoke.
Faviola has stopped attending school. This saddens us because the reason she stopped is because she is working a lot, picking up odd jobs and helping at a corner store making about $3/day when she is able to work. She reports that on Sundays, when she has class, she is too tired and would rather rest instead. We continue to try to encourage her by explaining that her schooling will help her in the long run get a better job, but as we all know, you cannot force someone to continue. Please pray for her for wisdom and strength. She also reports that she still experiences pain where she had her appendectomy months ago. When asked why she hasn’t gone to the doctor she said they didn’t have money to pay for the testing needed. We reminded her that we are here to help and to let us know how much it costs. She is going to let us know so we can make sure she gets the treatment she needs.
Jamilton has found somewhat steady work on the weekends that is currently sustaining the family. The only problem with this is that school is on Saturdays, so he has only been making 1-2 of the 4 classes per month. He is doing his best to fight for his family in this way but it is difficult. Demitri, his son, has recently contracted chicken pox and a stomach infection but is recovering from both.
