Aminta’s legal case continues, although it is drawing to a close.  The judge finished reading off the books of evidence and charges against everyone involved.  The evidence against Aminta is that her bank account was one of the accounts used to hold and launder money for the extortion ring.  If you remember, her ex-daughter-in-law had asked to borrow the account to receive money from someone who was “helping her” and that’s how Aminta’s name got brought into the mix.  The official charges against her are money laundering and extortion.  Her defense is arguing that allowing someone whom she trusted to borrow her account does not make her a criminal, just someone that was used in the commission of a crime.  The hearings are finished for the year and will resume in February when the judge will read the verdict against all involved.  Aminta is also scheduled to have a private meeting with the judge sometime in January before the final hearing.  The defense lawyer and the prosecutor have both already pointed out that they have witnessed Aminta’s character and she has demonstrated that she isn’t the type of person to get involved in criminal activity.  Aminta, her family, and the rest of us at Servants are holding onto the Lord’s promises to vindicate the innocent and protect his children from the evil of the world and we are claiming His righteousness over this situation.  Please join us in this prayer!
Roberto and his wife, Rosa, got baptized this month!  They are both committing themselves to the Lord and His work.  Roberto is already contemplating ways he can better serve in the church and community.

Aminta watches intently as Roberto prepares to get baptized.

Nancy and Lidia have been presented with a crossroads.  Lidia is 22 and Nancy has recently turned 18.  However, we have seen little to no motivation for them to “get out into the world” and so we proposed to help them find regular jobs.  Lidia has been babysitting her niece and nephew but this won’t give her much to fill her resume with.  Nancy graduated middle school this year and would like to study cosmetology.

Jeny also graduated 6th grad and is moving on to middle school!

We helped her get her official ID card and the pastor is helping her and Lidia get their papers together so they can apply for jobs.  We told them this year that we would help financially with their school registration, materials they need, etc. but they will be responsible to pay their own monthly tuition so that 1) they are more invested in their studies and 2) they are motivated to find work.  It was a hard decision to make but we are hoping it will give them the push they need to venture out and take more responsibility over their lives.
