This year, the Vasquez household got a little smaller as Apolonia’s sister and niece moved in with them.  Her niece, Sarai, was attending public school in her village but was not receiving a very good education.  The school was only open 1-2 times a week and when she did go, she didn’t learn a whole lot.  So, Sandra (Apolonia’s sister) asked if they could stay with them so Sarai could attend a better school.  Please keep them in your prayers as they are far from home.  Sarai, however, is enjoying her new school and classmates.

Ana is adjusting well to middle school and Paola is really loving high school, although it is a little tough for her, especially English class!  She enjoys learning though as well as the new friends she has made.  We have been trying to encourage her to practice her English more when we visit but she still has to get over the fear of sounding silly or saying the words wrong.  All three girls are taking English classes in school so they are able to practice at home and talk to each other.  We are really proud of them because this will be their 3rd language as they speak the language from their village as well as Spanish.

Apolonia recently had a bad cold that kept her bedridden for a few days and now the girls have it.  We are able to help them with some cough syrup that is helping them until the cold passes.  Please continue to pray for them as they endure this season of changing weather in Guatemala and continue to look forward to what God has in store for them.

Here’s a short clip of us celebrating Apolonia’s birthday with her.
