We are happy to announce that all three members of the Escobar family have found regular jobs! Hipolita is working as a caregiver for a special needs child. She works every day from 7 – 3 and has Thursdays off. The parents of the boy she takes care of does not work on Thursdays and are home, so it gives Hipolita a day of rest.
Faviola recently started working as a server in a chicken restaurant. She sometimes also is sent out to try to sell chicken in the neighborhood when business is slow.
Jamilton continues to work hard in construction which is good work but is very tiring and the job site is far from home. He generally heads out around 5 or 6 in the morning and returns home 8-9pm every day. Sometimes he gets Sundays off and if not, he requests a day off because he is so tired. However, he is happy to be earning to support his family.
We have more recently been trying to find ways to help them improve their living conditions as we have noticed the house is quite drafty and there are holes in the roof that create leaks during rainy season. They rent their house so that makes it difficult for us to just repair the house as the owner may raise the rent or kick them out to sell it or rent it at a higher rate. They have also had some plumbing issues but keep being told, “if you want to fix it yourself, you will have to pay out of pocket.” They even tried negotiating with the owner to see if she would give them reimbursement via rent if they were to fix the house themselves and she said no. Additionally, we just learned that she demands rent be paid 2-3 days before most people get paid. It appears they have a very tough landlord and the place they live isn’t very habitable as it is! We are currently working on trying to find them a new place to live so they don’t have to deal with these things anymore.
Please pray for God to provide the perfect house for them to live in at a reasonable rate they can afford!
