We recently received permission from Olga to announce to you that in August, Beverly will be giving birth to a baby.  Beverly and her boyfriend, Josue, found out in December that she was pregnant.  While, at first, the news was hard to accept, Olga and those of us at Servants have been working hard to make sure that she has a healthy pregnancy and that God would be the center of the relationship between Josue and Beverly.  Because she is under the age of 18, Beverly is required to stay at home until she is considered an adult before she and Josue can marry.  This has proven to be a difficult situation for all involved because Beverly has developed a sense of rebellion against her family.
Since Josue is over 18, there are legal ramifications that have complicated the matter.  He has begun the legal process with Guatemala’s child protective services which require them to attend parenting classes, pay a fine, and ensure that Beverly is receiving proper prenatal supervision.  Unfortunately, Beverly has expressed very openly that she no longer wants to live with Olga and would prefer to live with Josue and his parents.  This, of course, is very hurtful to Olga and despite her initial anger and misgivings, Olga has been doing her best to follow the legal restrictions and be a part of Beverly’s and her grandson’s life.  Olga has had to learn to lean on God even more as well as show unconditional love to her daughter, who has been very resistant to receive it.

The school that Beverly attends is working with her so she can continue her schooling.  They will “pro-rate” her classes until August and if she continues to do well, will give her a grade contingent upon her performance while attending this year.  Josue has also been contributing to Beverly’s care by paying half of her tuition this year, despite not having a regular job.  Please pray for God’s involvement in their relationship as well as an improved relationship between Beverly and Olga.

Olga was also able to celebrate the end of another legal proceeding as she applied for the birth certificates of Kesler and Byron to have her name put on as their mother!  Previously, we mentioned that as a result of how she came to live in Guatemala, her documents were falsified and Olga’s sister was on the documents.  Thanks to being able to get her residency status approved in Guatemala, she petitioned the courts and after a long process and maternity test, the boys are now officially “hers”.  She was also granted full incontestable custody of them!  This will prevent future issues with their father.

Byron has had some behavioral issues and is getting in with the wrong crowd in school.  Even though he attends a Christian school, he has been hanging around a few “bad eggs” who seem to have been doing nothing but getting him in trouble.  The school and Olga are working together to use this as a teaching opportunity for Byron.  He is learning the dangers of hanging out with the wrong crowd, especially when they blame everything they do on him!  Please pray for his continued growth in the Lord and guidance to make wiser decisions.

Kesler is still struggling with a few classes in school but only because he isn’t following through on his homework.  Last marking period we had a serious talk with him about the danger of losing his scholarship if he does not do his part.  Please pray for him to be more diligent and responsible in his studies so he can move on to high school next year!
