We recently spoke with Carmen who has been living with her daughter in Guatemala City which is about 90 minutes away. She told us that she came back to Villa Nueva because of some stomach issues she has been having. She said that the doctors in the city are more expensive than here but after paying $20 for a taxi ride to Villa Nueva, she found out her doctor’s office is closed!
She’s been struggling with stomach pains that won’t seem to go away, despite trying several different medicines. Because of the COVID restrictions, hospitals are only receiving the severest of cases that aren’t COVID related and many clinics aren’t in operation because the majority of services have been diverted to care for those who are infected or in quarantine. We are currently in the process of arranging transportation for her to one of the clinics in the area that is open and waiting to find out if she needs diagnostic testing and what medicine she will need. Please pray for her complete healing, whether it be through medicinal prescription or divine providence!
While visiting with Carmen we also had a chance to talk with Jorge. He’s been hard to track down as he is always out looking for odd jobs to do to make money and he doesn’t have a cell phone by which we can call him. Unfortunately, we discovered the majority of the money he makes has been going towards alcohol. It’s been a tough battle for him and he was inebriated when we visited with him. The majority of what he talked about was that he needs to have surgery (he recently sustained a hernia) and he misses his youngest boy, Anthony. We know from previous conversations with Roselia (the boys’ mom of the Hernandez Family) that she doesn’t trust Jorge with him when he is drinking. We tried to encourage him that the hospital won’t accept him for the surgery if he is drinking and the same with being able to see his boy. Please continue to pray for God’s healing in him over this vice so that he would no longer desire to drink or desire the feeling it gives him.
