The Diaz family continues to have their struggles but we are happy to announce that Carmen graduated!
Carmen finished high school and is working on getting her certification so she can apply for jobs in her specialty or work towards getting her degree as a veterinarian (her dream). However, we think her next goal is to get married to her boyfriend of 2 years. She has struggled to get along with her mom and wants a good and healthy reason to leave the house and be on her own but she has to wait for the right timing. Our team has had multiple talks with her, trying to help her seek God’s will for her life above all else. We applaud her in not only sticking it out and doing her part in school, but also not jumping the gun as so many her age tend to do.

Mirna’s mom passed away in September due to COVID. It was a difficult time for the whole family and Mirna was able to travel to her hometown for the service. Additionally, Mirna has recently been suffering from some pains in her side, which she fears is being caused by an ovarian cyst. Currently, she is waiting to make an appointment to go to the clinic and get checked out.
Sadly, Oscar did not show any interest this past year in wanting to continue studying and didn’t do much in the form of work to support the family, either. As a result, the team decided this year that the family must find a way to get him into school if that is what he really wants to do. We were hoping to have a similar response from him as we did Carmen, who truly wanted to continue her studies. However, Oscar took the path of just “waiting it out” and expected that we just put him back in school again this year. This was confirmed by a recent conversation with Mirna who said that we “promised” to pay for his scholarship again this year…which was very far from the truth. Thankfully, we take notes on each of our visits and were able to pull that back up from 6 months ago to confirm that is not what we had said.
We continue to remain concerned for Oscar and his lack of a father figure in his life. His age and situation lends itself to be recruited by a gang, either out of boredom or necessity. Please continue to pray for this family as they navigate the difficulties they are experiencing and us as a ministry as we try to walk alongside them in a healthy manner.
