First, we will start with the positive news: both Jairo and Alejandra passed the school year! It was touch and go with Jairo, but Jackeline has noticed that Jairo’s attitude and overall countenance have improved since he started seeing a psychologist.

Alejandra, on the other hand, has been having some emotional struggles as of late. Even though her grades weren’t affected, Jackeline has noticed that Alejandra hasn’t been eating a whole lot and she hasn’t been her usual joyful and energetic self. She has been losing weight as a result and Jackeline took her to the doctor to see what was going on.

After some blood tests, they discovered she is anemic because she isn’t eating. The doctor suggested that aside from prescribing some concentrated vitamin shots (which we are helping pay for part of), she also should get some psychological help as she is displaying signs of depression and anorexia. Jackeline was able to get her in to see the same psychologist who is treating Jairo.

It appears that Alejandra started displaying these symptoms after having a disturbing conversation with her grandparents (her dad’s parents). They have never been very accepting of Jackeline or her relationship with her now-deceased husband, but she tries to remain civil with them despite how they treat her. She has tried to help the kids stay in contact since they are family. Alejandra hasn’t wanted to share what the conversation was about but it has clearly affected her.

Additionally, they all got baptized in their new church! Olga gave them new bibles to celebrate with them.

Join us in praying that Alejandra is able to recover physically and emotionally from this and can move forward! We are also encouraged to see Jackeline taking a more responsible role in the lives of her kids and doing her part to provide for them and care for them, but trusting in us to help in areas she is unable to.
