This might seem like an odd update, but it’s a process that has been going on for quite some time!

Before COVID made things more difficult around the world, we learned that Aminta did not have the deed for her own property. She had paid off the loan in full, but she realized the paperwork that needed to be completed after the sale was never done. The previous owner called her and said she needed to do her part or else he could take back the land he sold her.

She came to us not knowing what to do. This is typical in Guatemala as proper procedures are rarely followed and even more rarely communicated in full. So, in addition to all the other stresses, they have been enduring, the looming threat of losing the property that they already paid for was another heavy burden on top of it all. We helped her find a lawyer who could file the paperwork for a reasonable price and they have been paying it off little by little. Aminta was overjoyed when she finally got the deed to her house!

Jeny has continued to attend school on her own accord! We are happy that she has taken responsibility to find a job that pays enough to cover her tuition. With this family, we have learned that it is sometimes necessary to put them in a position where they need to take more responsibility if they really want to achieve their goals and not just do it all for them.

Please continue to pray for this family as Aminta’s health still comes and goes, but she still hasn’t seemed to take full responsibility for her own health to control her diabetes. She tells us occasionally of the problems she has with her teeth but she knows that she has to get her blood sugar under control in order to have them extracted or else she could have complications, according to the dentist.
