“This little can of formula costs us Q400.” This is what we heard from Aminta when one of our missionaries asked her how everything was going with the new baby in the family. This “little can” was only about 12 ounces and Q400 is equivalent to about $50. You can imagine for a family that struggles financially every day how much of a burden this might be. Linda is the baby’s mother and we shared in our last post how she is unable to breastfeed due to medication she is taking after an infection in her C-section site.
Our missionary translated what Aminta said for some of the short term team members who were recently here serving to finish the retaining wall at Aminta’s house. The Lord touched their hearts and they asked if they could help buy some formula for the baby. Through some online research we found out that we could get a container 4 times that size in the states for about $20. Thankfully, another small team from Servants was coming down later that week to serve in another area of Guatemala and they said they would have room to bring the formula.
There was such a huge response when the short term team members heard about this need that the team in the states was able to buy 8 containers of formula at 48 oz. each! Aminta and her family now have enough formula to last them several months and we are hoping to be able to get more when the next team comes in January.

Aminta and her family have struggled to the point that they have even had to borrow money to buy milk for the baby over these past few months. Thankfully, this burden is now lifted from them and they focus on caring well for the other members of their large family.
