This was a momentous occasion as Jairo’s commitment to school has been off again, on again and we have questioned multiple times if he would finish. Now he is moving on to high school! He is interested in studying mechanics as his uncle works on cars a lot and he wants to learn more about that.
Dincy also recently contacted us with a desire to return to school and asked if we could help somehow with her tuition. She will be studying on the weekends so she can work during the week to provide for her little girl. Dincy will be studying to be a secretary, as her previous studies in nursing took up too much time for her, and now that she has a child, must find a way to balance life with work, child-rearing, and continuing to further her own education.
We also learned that since Mr. Ricardo passed away, the family has been struggling to make ends meet. Ilsa’s son is now the primary breadwinner and he has his own wife and kids to care for. Recently, he seems to have been tricked by a supposed friend and was tricked into giving him Q25,000 (about $3,500). Now they are reeling from that and working hard to provide for the family. We will continue to check in with the family to see if there are other ways they need our help but since then, we haven’t heard much about it.
Finally, we have a video that Ilsa sent us thanking you for your support!
