We are happy to see that despite limited access to computers and the internet, the girls are doing great in school! They have been visiting one of our missionaries who has internet and a computer borrowed from the SARF ministry. This has been particularly helpful for Paola who has a lot of homework and most of it must be done online since she is now in high school.
During the day, the girls work to sell produce in their neighborhood or babysit for people they know who are still working. In the evenings, the girls sit together and work on their homework once curfew sets in because “there is nothing else better to do and no distractions”. Apolonia mentioned that some of her neighbors began asking if she would sell vegetables instead of fruit since they have limited access. She told us she has been selling a lot of vegetables but it has been hard to keep them fresh.
We reminded her that a donation was made last year to help her get a refrigerator to do so and even sell frozen goodies like chocolate covered bananas which are easy to make and sell. When we received the donation, she changed her mind about the vegetables but now sees it would be a good investment. We are working on getting her the fridge as well as helping her consider the increased cost in electricity for having a fridge (which she had not thought about). Once she gets the fridge, she will be one of the few people in the area who sells cold items and fresh vegetables!
Please pray that she doesn’t get cold feet again (pun intended) and follows through this time. We see this as a great opportunity for her to increase sales. Also, continue to pray for the girls’ ongoing education. We are very happy to see them excelling!
