Despite the difficult circumstances they find themselves in, the Diaz family continues to do well.  Carmen and Oscar continue to perform well in school.  We are waiting to get their report cards.  We have been able to help them by providing internet service and a loaned computer which allows them to download and upload their weekly course load. Oscar is feeling more trapped in his home.  This is due to the restrictions put on the public against any unnecessary movement that has prevented him from playing soccer most days, which he loves to do.

Mirna has discovered that there is some unfriendly competition in her neighborhood. Her bread sales had gone down and she discovered that someone up the street started selling bread as well. She began to sell other goods and foods and even refrigerated water and this also was copied. It seems to her that whatever she tries to sell, this same person copies her. In our culture, this might seem like simple business competition but in the Guatemalan culture, it feels like a direct attack against their livelihood.

Continue to pray for the kids as they try to learn on their own through the schools’ assignments and Mirna’s striving to provide for her family.
