We recently celebrated Mirna’s birthday with her! One of our missionaries returned to Guatemala and unexpectedly surprised Mirna by delivering a cake.
We were sad to discover, however, that Oscar did not finish school well 🙁 He failed all of his classes! Upon speaking with his teachers and principal, they reported that he has the capacity to do well but has chosen not to. Please join us in praying for this situation. Generally, we would not continue paying for him to go to school, but we are concerned that if he does not go to school next year, he will be even more primed to be recruited by a local gang. Our missionaries are working on a plan to spend more time with him to help him through this difficult time. We know it is a sign of teenage rebellion influenced by the lack of a father figure.
On the other hand, Carmen seems to have learned from her experience of not being able to attend school this year and surprised us with the information we had asked for to sign up for nursing school next year! We are praying she will stick with it this time and work hard despite any difficulties she may encounter with her studies or classmates.
Mirna and Carmen continue to enjoy their discipleship studies with our missionaries and are growing in their relationship with the Lord. Despite continued issues with their neighbors, they are learning to handle the situation with love and are seeking God’s guidance every step of the way.
