Last school year Carmen graduated from 3rd Basico (US 10th grade equivalent). In Guatemala this level of education is followed up by a 2 or 3-year program that focuses on a career. Carmen had wanted to attend a military school in Guatemala City to prepare to be a military police officer, but this did not work out because she was still recovering from appendicitis. She was told that because of how physically intense the program is she wouldn’t be accepted given her recent surgery. Carmen was disappointed, but she shared with us that she has always enjoyed working with small children. Because of this she decided that she wanted to be a preschool teacher, so she entered a two-year program to prepare her for this career path. Please pray for Carmen and her studies as she has been having a difficult time adjusting to the extra workload that this new level of education comes with.
In previous years Oscar hasn’t had too many problems with school. Unfortunately, he has struggled this year with keeping his grades up and completing his homework. The school administration has also shared with us that Oscar has had some issues with his attitude and behavior. We have also seen some of these issues carrying over to his home life. Our missionaries are working alongside Mirna to help Oscar work through some of these issues. Please join us in praying that the Lord would work in Oscar’s life, and that he would desire to make positive changes in his life.
Mirna continues to sell bread, and she generally sells out of everything, so she has been making a little money each day. This business has also provided the family with bread to eat during each meal time. Mirna has been selling bread for about a year now.
A few months back Mirna shared with us that now that we are in rainy season the rains have brought flooding in her house due to the walls being made of corrugated iron and not block. We are happy to report that a team that came in July was able to work alongside a few Guatemalan masons to build Mirna a block wall on the backside of her house, which has replaced the corrugated iron wall where most of the water had been coming into the house. This has helped to eliminate the flooding waters that had been rushing into the home with each rain.
Thank you for all your continued prayers and support for this family. They often talk about their sponsors and how much of an impact you all have had on their lives.

Oscar enjoyed playing catch with one of the girls who came on the July SARF team.

Carmen has been studying hard to prepare herself for a teaching career!
