We are so happy to share that Aminta’s daughter, Lydia, graduated from 6th grade this past month!

This has been a long time coming for Lydia, who just recently celebrated her 20th birthday.  For many years, Aminta’s daughter’s were unable to continue with their studies because the family did not have enough money to pay for the school expenses. Thankfully, their pastor put them in touch with the Serving At Risk Families ministry and through this they now have sponsors who are investing in helping these girls continue their education.

This was such a happy day for Lydia and for her sisters who were able to be there by her side for the graduation.  However, it was a little sad too because her mother was unable to be there due to a family emergency.  Thankfully, Lydia has a close relationship with some of our missionaries and she invited one of them to come to the graduation.  It was a proud day for this sweet girl and she is excited to continue in her studies.  We are also excited to share that Nancy and Jenifer, Lydia’s siblings, also passed the school year and will be moving on to the next grade level.

This is a huge blessing, but this year in school has also been a bit of a struggle for Lydia’s youngest sister, Jeny, who has been suffering the last few months with an unknown illness.  She has had a bad cough and sore throat for months now.  The doctors tried several different treatments before realizing that she has tuberculosis.  Sadly, one of the things that increases your risk for contracting tuberculosis is being malnourished.  The SARF ministry is exploring different ways that we can help this family provide more food and more nourishing foods so that Jeny can heal and so that the rest of the family is not at risk of contracting the same illness.

Please continue to pray for all of these girls as they move forward in their studies and in the plans God has for their lives.  Please also pray for complete healing for Jeny, protection for all of the family, and provisions for all of their needs.

Here are some photos of Lydia’s special day:
