Olga and her family have been facing some difficult challenges recently and need your prayers!
Around the middle of June Olga received a message from her family in Honduras telling her that her father was very sick and she needed to come quickly if she wanted to see him alive. She finished the work she was doing for the week so that she could have enough money to travel and help care for her father and she went to Honduras as quickly as she could. Thankfully, she was able to arrange care for her kids between the father of the kids and her husband Elias. Since June 16 Olga has been at the hospital taking care of her dad. Hospitals in Honduras are very sad places. Patients are often crowded 4 & 5 to a room with very little medical care. There are no supplies provided for the patients, such as: food, water, diapers, blankets, pillows, etc. The family has to bring everything. The patients are given a bed and put on a list to wait to get care because there is often not enough medicine and many people waiting for testing. For almost a month Olga has been by her dad’s side. Feeding him, bathing him, finding ways to get his testing done. All the while she is sleeping in a plastic chair next to her dad’s bed which means she’s not really sleeping much at all. Her mother, brothers, and sister have left her alone to care for her dad because they said “we cared for him the whole time you weren’t here so you can do it now.” It has been so hard for Olga seeing her dad in this state and dealing with all the hardships with her family. She is now tired, worn down, and sick with a sore throat and fever. She has finally agreed to come home, get some rest, and spend time with her family in Guatemala. She is sad to leave because she does not know if she will be able to be there with her dad when he dies and she does not want him to be alone. But she is trusting that when the Lord wants her back in Honduras He will make it possible to get there.
During all this Olga and her husband, Elias, have been dealing with some challenges with the children. The boys, Kesler and Byron, are not doing their part to help out their sister, Beverly, with the house work and Beverly has found it very challenging to take on the responsibilities as the “woman of the house” while keeping up with her studies. Over the last week Beverly has started acting out. She skipped school a few days ago and when Elias asked her why she did it she swore to him that she was there but the attendance record shows she was not. When Elias asked her why she lied to him she didn’t have an answer. Then a few days after skipping school Elias came home early to find Beverly had snuck a boy into the house while her brothers were away and she was home alone. Olga and Elias have been seeking the help of Servants’ missionaries in helping them deal with these issues. It is very hard for Olga to have all this going on with her daughter while she is so far away and it is challenging for Elias because Beverly often does not listen to what he says. Thankfully, Beverly has a relationship with some of our missionaries where they are like second parents to her so they are working through this with her.
Please pray for Olga as she is so torn wanting to be in 2 places at one time. Please also pray for the Lord to change the hearts of the kids so that they start working together as a family and so that Beverly realizes the danger of the choices she is making. Please also pray for wisdom for our missionaries as they walk through this difficult time with the family and decide what the best course of action is moving forward.
Thank you for always praying for this family and for all of your love, prayers and support for them!
