Please continue to pray for the ongoing struggles Aminta’s family is having as well as the struggles we are having as a ministry to serve them well.

After finally getting access to Jenifer’s grades (the family was resistant to give us the access code and we had to ask the school directly), we discovered that she has not been doing well at all.  She struggled last year as well and we offered to help tutor her and get her any help she needed but decided not to make use of the help available to her.  As a ministry, we told the family that we would not continue paying for her to fail out of the class and they took it harshly.  Since then, our relationship with the family has not been the same.

Additionally, as the country opens back up and the economy has begun to pick up again, we have been assessing if we need to continue giving each family food supplements.  During the initial lockdown of the pandemic, most families struggled to earn money as their jobs were dependent upon other folks working and being willing to spend money.  Despite our efforts to encourage and support the family in making food and other necessities in order to be more self-sustainable, they have not done much.  We also had to stop giving them food as a result in order to motivate them to work more for themselves.  While this has been difficult for us, we have seen it have a positive result!

Although our relationship with Aminta and her family is strained right now, we continue to check in on them and let them know we love them and are praying for them.  We have also been trying to help them through the process of getting Aminta’s land and house transferred into her name (something we thought was already done since she bought the land almost 10 years ago!).  In addition to establishing contact with a lawyer to help with the paperwork, we have also been helping her save money little by little.  She has been giving us money to hold onto as she is able to put it away so that they can save for the $200 needed to finish the process.  Since then they have saved over $150 already!  This is proof that they are able to do what is necessary to sustain themselves when properly motivated.

Please continue to pray for this family as they are in a difficult situation but are also learning how to survive more on their own.  Also, pray for us as a ministry and people who love and care for the family as we try to discern what is the most beneficial for the family and how to help them grow.  We are also asking God for more patience and understanding as we all navigate this difficult time not only in history but especially in the lives of this family.
