The other day we visited with this family to find out how they have been doing since our last update. Fabiola is still looking for a job and feels a bit discouraged because she has not found work so her mother and brother are the only ones providing for the family right now.   However, she is very happy that she is able to remain focused on her schooling because she knows in the end her education is the most important. Fabiola is putting all her effort into her schooling and her grades show the effort she is putting in. She is very grateful for the support which gives her the opportunity to continue attending school.

Hamilton, Fabiola’s brother, is currently working as a carpenter and is learning how to make legs for beds. One of Servants’ in country missionaries talked with Hamilton and found out that he has a lot of fears in his life that are holding him back. He is very afraid of failing in his studies and he has trouble doing his homework alone but has been afraid to admit that. Our missionary had the opportunity to share some of his personal experiences and struggles with Hamilton and encourage him. After this discussion Hamilton felt hopeful and communicated that he wants to try school again next year.

Dipolita, the mother of Fabiola and Hamilton, is still doing housework for other people but she is only able to do this part time as she wants to be home in the afternoons when the children are there. She has great hopes for her children but is very concerned with Hamilton and his struggles in school. She has asked about the possibility of changing schools next year to see if this helps Hamiltion. We are in the process of discerning if this is the best idea or if it would be better to get Hamilton some more one on one tutoring to help him.

Please continue to pray for God to show this family and us at Servants what the best decision is for Hamilton. Please also pray for a job for Fabiola and that she would continue to do well in school. Finally, please pray for Dipolita as the struggles of being a single mother and trying to balance work to provide for her family and spending time with her family is a constant challenge for her and sadly one that is all too common in families in Guatemala where the majority of families are single mother families.
