In our last update we shared about the struggles that Aminta and her family were having with Jeny’s diagnosis of tuberculosis. Sadly, over the last few weeks 5 more kids in the house were diagnosed with tuberculosis. They are going to need treatment every single day for the next 6 months. While this is very overwhelming for Aminta and her family Aminta continues to trust in God’s faithful provisions.
Initially, the children were delayed in starting their treatment because the government did not have the medicine available to give them. As we shared about Jeny, this is a very expensive treatment (about $400 per dose) so if the government would not provide the medicine these children would be at risk of never being cured from this horrible, life threatening disease. Thankfully, after a few weeks the medicine came through and all 5 children were able to start their treatment.
This has also been an adjustment for Aminta and her family as they have had to work together to find time to take the children every day. Thankfully, Aminta’s daughter-in-law is able to take her 2 children and Aminta’s employer is allowing her to leave early every day so that she can take the rest of the children. Also, one of Aminta’s daughters, who is over 18, recently moved back into the house so she is able to help take the children too and Aminta’s brother helps take them one day a week. Our missionaries in Guatemala were originally taking Jeny for her treatment 2 days a week and they were continuing to take the other kids on those 2 days but it has been a blessing for everyone that the family was able to work out a schedule because the missionaries were not able to take the children every day.
Please pray that no one else in the family has this disease and that the Lord will continue to protect all of them and heal them. Please also pray for strength for the family as it is very difficult to have so many of their children sick and to have to take them for treatment every day. Aminta is also looking into the possibility of having the treatment transferred the health clinic that is close to her house so it would be a shorter trip for them so please pray that this would happen as well.
Although things have been very difficult, it has also been a great opportunity for Aminta and her children, most of whom are unbelievers, to see the love, care and provision of their Heavenly Father. Aminta has told us repeatedly how grateful she is to the Lord for bringing the people of Servants to walk alongside her family during this difficult time and to help assure that the children get the treatment they need. God has also moved the hearts of several people to help financially so almost everything that they lost in the robbery, at the beginning of the year, was able to be replaced and they are able to receive nutrition baskets to help combat the malnourishment in the family. This especially is a great blessing as malnourishment is one of the top things that can make you susceptible to contracting tuberculosis.
Please continue to pray that everyone in the family would see God’s love, care and provision for them. And most importantly that those in the family who are not believers would have their eyes and hearts be opened to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is Aminta’s greatest prayer request every time we ask her how we can pray for her family.
