In a visit we had with the Perez family just before Christmas, we came to the realization that it might be our last.
Pedro and Juanita decided to move back to the northern village of Nebaj, where they are originally from, and live on the land they own there and try to start their own business. While they had moved to Villa Nueva years ago in an attempt to earn more money, these recent years have proved quite difficult for them.
Jacinto was laid off from his job and no one else in the family has been able to find enough work to make ends meet. They have been surviving with our help but regardless of what they tried (even with Jacinto and Katy trying to immigrate to the US without our knowledge), it hasn’t panned out. They’ve always had dreams of returning to their homeland once they were able to save up enough money in the city.
We are still in telephone contact with them and Pedro says he has started a garden that he is hoping he can sell the product to buy more seeds to grow even more. He also asked for prayer specifically for Juanita as she is still suffering the traumatic effects of her journey months ago.
While it is sad to say goodbye to them, we celebrate their decision to try something new and different. Please continue to pray for them as they adjust to their new living situation and that God guides them and provides for them!
