In talking with the Chinchilla family recently, we discovered that their school is struggling to support the kids well.

Alejandra is getting good grades and maturing to be a young lady.  However, she feels that sometimes her teacher plays favorites and has a “teacher’s pet”.  This upsets Alejandra because she feels she is the best student in the class.  She is definitely ready to advance to middle school next year and hopes that she doesn’t have to do all her classes online via video chat and can actually interact with her classmates in person.

As you know, Jairo has always struggled in school and most often than not, his teachers and school administrations blame him for not doing his part.  The interesting thing is that this year he is doing better than he has the past few years!  With the school’s necessity to adapt to online schooling, it appears that it is creating another hurdle for him to overcome.  It is hard for him to pay attention and focus through hours of video classes, but the schedule for his class has also become difficult.  His teacher has scheduled classes for early in the morning but then he gets a break until 6-9 pm where he has to take his tests.  The split schedule has made it difficult for him to focus.  However, he seems to be maturing into a young man and he is determined to pass this year!

Jackeline has been trying to schedule meetings with his teacher (who is also the school director) and the school psychologist to find out if there is a way to work with him better or provide extra tutoring which he was receiving before the pandemic forced everything to go online.  The struggle with the school (and many others) is that they are understaffed due to having to cut costs and those that remain are overtasked.

We are continuing to encourage Jairo to do his best and Jackeline who is trying to fight for her son to receive the help and education that he deserves.  Please continue to lift them up in prayer as the school year comes to an end and the daunting final exams are right around the corner!
