We are happy to announce that Olga was approved by the Guatemalan Ministry of Labor to hold an official job in Guatemala! Not only is this a huge milestone in her life, but also for the Servants ministry as we will be bringing her on as staff! She has been working as a volunteer since the beginning of the year, learning how we serve families through Servants. While she has a basic knowledge of how we operate because of being helped by the ministry, she has been learning a lot more about the formal workforce. She’s been pushing herself hard not only to serve others better, but to learn how to be part of a team, attend and participate in meetings, and make decisions that might not be the easiest but the best for others.

Her background makes her the perfect candidate to be a family representative! She has close relationships with the families she is serving in Linda Vista as they are all part of her community. Because of her very difficult background, she is able to speak directly and truthfully into the lives of others and show them how trusting in God is what helps you overcome life’s adversities.

On a financial level, Servants is currently helping to pay for her and her kids to go to school. Once the paperwork is completed in the coming month, she will no longer be considered a family served by the ministry, rather a regular staff member being paid a regular salary. Her income will be a bit more than what we help her with currently, but we have yet to raise all of the necessary funds to employ her full time. The minimum wage for her position will cost the ministry about $800/month which not only provides her a salary but also covers taxes as well as the socialized healthcare and benefits that regular employees are given.

If you are currently a financial sponsor of the Mercado de Giron family we ask you to prayerfully consider diverting your support of them from family sponsorship to her missionary support. You can do so by replying to the email you received for this update or email melissa@servants.org directly.
