Yanira is greatly struggling in her schoolwork. Upon checking her latest grades, we discovered that she is failing in all her classes. She seems to be having difficulty with her transition into middle school, becoming a teenager, and dealing with the loss of her mother a couple years ago. The school administration called for an emergency meeting with her, her caretakers, and Jon who has been helping care for her and her siblings by way of mentorship and tutoring.
The last time we visited them, Ilsa, the woman who along with her husband is taking care of Yanira and her siblings, mentioned that Yanira no longer has a desire to go to church or participate in youth meetings anymore. The teachers are concerned for Yanira because they know she is able to do the work necessary but she doesn’t seem to be putting forth any effort. The problem she faces in regards to her schooling is that if she receives 3 more failing grades, she will flunk out for the school year. Her effort has become subpar and everyone is concerned as to why she isn’t doing the necessary work. We are working to investigate if this is just a phase she is going through or if there is something more serious going on. Some of her classes she is failing simply because she refuses to do and turn in her homework and sometimes even show up to class. Because middle and high school only meets one day per week, students are assigned a lot of homework to fulfill throughout the week and this carries a majority of the grade in classes and missing classes really hurts their ability to stay ahead of the courseload. She has also scored on some tests with just 3, 4, and 15 points.
Please keep Yanira in your prayers for God to motivate her and raise up the help and support she needs whether it is tutoring help, psychological help, emotional support, or anything else. Her teachers, family, and Servants want to see her succeed but she has to put in the work necessary to accomplish it. Also pray for the guidance of Yanira’s teachers and caregivers to help her through this difficult time.
